Qualified clinicians taking an interest in the QPP MIPS (Quality Payment Program – Merit-Based Incentive Payment System) can’t disregard significant deadlines. We assume some of you might be thinking of targeting MIPS incentives, while some of you only want to avoid penalties.

So, no matter what the requirement is, you must know the respective dates to keep a check on their MIPS journey 2021.

October 1, 2020

This date marked the beginning of the virtual group election period for MIPS 2021.

December 2020

This month, we saw the Final Rule for QPP MIPS 2021 released by CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services). Moreover, it was the time when MIPS eligible clinicians could check their initial eligibility status.

December 31, 2020

This date marked the end of the Virtual group election period for MIPS 2021.

January 01, 2021

The QPP MIPS 2021 performance period officially started due this date.

April 1, 2021

This date marked the official registration of the Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS) for the MIPS Survey.

Groups, virtual groups, and APM entities, who want to participate via the CMS Web Interface could register from this date. They also had another choice where they could administer the CAHPS (Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems) for the MIPS survey.

May – Spring/Summer 2021

This date marked the application window for the MIPS participation exception.

CMS started accepting applications for two categories:

  • MIPS eligible clinicians who wanted to apply for the uncontrollable and extreme conditions for any or all MIPS performance categories
  • Hardship exception for Promoting Interoperability (PI)

June 30, 2021

This is the deadline for the registration period for Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS) for MIPS Survey and CMS Web Interface.

July 2021 – October 2021

During this period, CMS post Qualifying Participant (QP) determinations and the QPP MIPS 2021 and APM important information on the official website.

October 3, 2021

If you haven’t started on Promoting Interoperability (PI) and Improvement Activities (IA) until this date, this is the deadline when you should start working on them for MIPS reporting 2021.

December 2021

This is the month until when CMS finalizes MIPS eligibility for respective clinicians for the performance year 2021.

December 31, 2021

It is the official date when QPP MIPS 2021 performance year ends. It is also a reminder of the end period of hardship exception applications.

January 3, 2022

Now, you can officially start MIPS reporting 2021 to CMS.

March 31, 2022

MIPS data submission 2021 window closes on this date.

July 2022

Until this month, CMS provides the performance feedback for each eligible clinician. Plus, it is also to notify that a targeted review window is open as the physicians’ payment adjustment information is made available.

August/September 2022

The window for targeted review closes until this date. It is done almost after 60 days of the release of payment adjustment information in general.

January 1, 2023

Clinicians can now receive payment adjustments for QPP MIPS 2021 based on their performance.
